According to movie website TheHollywoodReporter.com, the Underworld movie series will be rebooted and Lakeshore Entertainment has already hired Cory Goodman to write the script. The producers will also be Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi. The first Underworld installment was released in 2003, directed by Len Wiseman an starred lead actress Kate Beckinsale who played the main character vampire Selene. Her role was able to land her three more installments in 2006 (Underworld: Evolution), 2009 (prequel Underworld: Rise of the Lycans) and 2012 (Underworld: Awakening). Underworld: Awakening, the 3D film that saw Beckinsale reprise her role as Selene, was the top earner in the franchise, taking in $160 million worldwide. The vampires versus werewolves franchise has grossed $458.2 million worldwide.
According to CinemaBlend.com Cory Goodman is still kind of a newbie in the industry, but his track record thus far doesn’t inspire a ton of confidence. His only feature credit currently is the 2011 Paul Bettany action movie Priest, which was not only ripped to shreds by critics, but also only managed to make $78 million globally on a $60 million budget. His next script, The Last Witch Hunter, is currently in active development with Vin Diesel attached to star and Breck Eisner on board to helm. Summit Entertainment holds the U.S. distribution rights to the movie, but they have not yet announced a release date.
