2014 Philippines Mobile App Developers’ Day ended Dec. 7, 2014.  The winner was a team that created an app called “TollPass,” which won the US$6,000 grand prize. The winning app offers a solution for smarter road tolls in order to reduce traffic jams and delays.

The event took place on Dec. 6-7 and drew more than 60 contestants from the Philippines who split into 11 teams.

In addition to the grand prize winners, there were second and third prizes:

  • Second prize of $2,000 went to the creator of an app called “E-Jeep Tracker,” a means for a passenger to know how far away the next e-jeep is and therefore the wait-time. An e-jeep is an electric jeepney, a popular form of public transport in Manila that runs on a set route rather like a bus.
  • The third prize of $1,000 went to a team that created an app called “What Are You Craving For?” which eliminates queuing in lines by identifying restaurants suitable for a particular choice of food that have shorter wait-times when ordering for takeaway or dining in.

All the winning teams will also receive six-month mentorship from Golden Gate Ventures.
